As a coordinator, you play a significant role in Our Way of Learning Homeschool Collective and act as a representative to our members and the community at large. For a better understanding of what you can expect as a coordinator and what is expected of you, please read the following Volunteer Agreement.

OWL will provide for you:
  • A specific description of your volunteer position, detailing duties and responsibilities.
  • Support, encouragement, and feedback to help you fulfill your duties.
  • Access to the OWL Coordinators subgroup on BigTent.
  • Authorization to add events and news items (as applicable to your position) and post to the main OWL BigTent Group forum on behalf of the coordinators.
  • An owlsiouxfalls.org email address that will forward emails to your regular email address.
  • The opportunity to be part of a fun leadership team that makes every effort to provide an enjoyable and enlightening experience for all members and coordinators.
OWL asks that you:
  • Provide updates on the progress of your projects/duties.
  • Give your fellow coordinators the opportunity to give feedback on coordinator-related topics before posting to the main OWL BigTent group.
  • Ensure that tours and activities are scheduled and agreed upon by the other coordinators before adding them to the BigTent calendar.
  • Provide feedback on posts on the OWL Coordinators subgroup (if requested) within 2 business days of the post. After two business days, your lack of response will be considered an indication of either neutrality or agreement. Coordinators indicating ahead of time that they will not have the time or inclination to regularly participate in the coordinators’ BigTent discussions are always welcome to jump into the conversation when able.
  • Share any concerns you may have with the other coordinators in a diplomatic manner.  Your willingness to compromise and work through any disagreements will be most appreciated and will help to enhance the value and longevity of our group.
  • Treat your coordinator responsibilities seriously.  Neglecting the duties to which you have agreed is unfair to the other coordinators and has the potential to disrupt the overall group dynamic.  Should you find it difficult to fulfill your responsibilities, please do not hesitate to ask someone for a hand (either as needed, or to job-share with you) or see if a different position has become available that is better suited to your needs and/or availability.  It is important that our coordinators are happy and satisfied in their service to the group; if you find that you simply do not have the time or desire to continue with your duties, your decision give up those duties will be supported.
  • Recognize the purpose of our group, which is to provide support, as well as social and educational activities to all area homeschooling families, regardless of race, religion, ethnic background, political orientation, or family composition.  There is a general expectation that our members treat each other with kindness and respect, and our coordinators should provide an exceptional example of these qualities.
  • Acknowledge, support, and show appreciation to your fellow coordinators.
  • Have fun and agree to ask questions if needed. Remember we are here for you!
Thank you so much for your time and effort!
